STAIND's AARON LEWIS Pays Emotional Tribute To His 'Really Good Friend' CHESTER BENNINGTON
July 22, 2017STAIND frontman Aaron Lewis paid tribute to his friend Chester Bennington just hours after learning of the LINKIN PARK singer's passing.
While performing a solo concert Thursday night (July 20) at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, Lewis addressed the crowd. He said: "So… I lost a really good friend today. I'm not really sure why he, uh, he chose to take his own life, but it's been a really sad day. So this next song, uh… this next song is for Chester."
Lewis then launched into an emotional rendition of the STAIND track "Something To Remind You", which is the tenth and final track on the band's self-titled seventh studio album, released in 2011.
Bennington's body was discovered Thursday morning (July 20) by an employee at the musician's Palos Verdes Estates home.
The 41-year-old's body was hanging from a belt on a bedroom door inside the house in the 2800 block of Via Victoria, Ed Winter, spokesman for the L.A. County medical examiner-coroner, said on Friday. A half-empty bottle of alcohol was found in the room, though it was not near his body, Winter said.
A suicide note was not found, Winter said.
Winter said an autopsy was pending, and that toxicology tests were also likely to be carried out.
Bennington struggled with drugs and alcohol for years. He had said in the past he had considered committing suicide because he had been abused as a child by an older male.
